Ligeti "Total Immersion" at the Barbican
Mar. 01, 2019
On March 2, the BBC Symphony Orchestra presented an in-depth look at the life and music of György Ligeti at the Barbican Centre. This day of "Total Immersion" included a documentary film ("All Clouds are Clocks", dir. Leslie Megahey), a lecture by musicologist Tim Rutherford-Johnson, a concert of Ligeti's chamber music performed by musicians from the Guildhall School, and a performance of Ligeti's choral works by the BBC Singers. Finally, Sakari Oramo led the BBC Symphony Orchestra in a concert of Ligeti's acclaimed Violin Concerto featuring Augustin Hadelich as the soloist, and his Piano Concerto, featuring Nicolas Hodges, among other works.
