Julian Wachner leads NOVUS NY, the new music ensemble in residence at Trinity Church Wall Street in Manhattan, in performances of two masterpieces by Gustav Mahler. The NOVUS NY performances are part of “TOTAL EMBRACE: Leonard Bernstein at 100”, which celebrates the centenary of Bernstein’s birth and offers a wide-ranging selection of the iconic composer-conductor’s music. The celebration also includes works by other notable New York City composer-conductors including Bernstein’s lifelong friend Lukas Foss, as well as works by Gustav Mahler, Pierre Boulez, Aaron Copland, and Julian Wachner. With a special emphasis on lesser-known vocal compositions, the concerts feature performances by Trinity’s resident contemporary music orchestra NOVUS NY and a roster of North America’s leading instrumental and vocal soloists, all under Wachner’s direction.
