Music of Joseph Schwantner at Shenandoah Conservatory

On November 2 and 3, Shenandoah Conservatory's Edge Ensemble and Large Ensembles celebrated the music of Joseph Schwantner at their Pulitzer Prize Composer Festival. Divided into two engaging concerts, the conservatory's premier instrumental and vocal ensembles showcased Schwantner's distinctive voice with performances ranging from his solo works to large ensemble pieces.

Concert I on November 2 saw the Edge Ensemble present intimate performances of Schwantner's Sparrows, Velocities for solo marimba as well as Taking Charge for flute, piano and percussion at Bright Box Theatre. Shenandoah Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Shenandoah Chorus took center stage on November 3 in Concert II, highlighting Schwantner's larger works such as ..and the mountains rising nowhere among others. The program also featured a special onstage discussion with the composer.
